A Rustic Scottish Wedding At The Alton Mills Arts Centre

Jackie and Ryan’s outdoor wedding will make you fall in love with fall

Jackie’s getting ready took place at the Millcroft Inn and Spa with two of her bridesmaids and mother to help her out. This location was a stunning place with lots of areas to take some beautiful images (especially the gazebo!) Jackie decided to do a first look with her dad, and what a precious moment this was to capture. You could really see the pride in his face when he turned around to see his beautiful daughter in her wedding dress. Ryan and his groomsmen got ready at the Best Western in Orangeville. I gotta say, these lads rocked their kilts like true Scottish men. Of course, whisky shots were also in order to truly honour the Scottish culture. Ryan swigged it straight from the bottle like a champ!

Jackie and Ryan had a beautiful intimate wedding and reception with their family and friends at the Alton Mills Arts Centre in the heart of autumn. The venue has a very rustic and quaint appeal which matches the theme of their wedding. The wedding ceremony was held right outside of the centre in the Annex courtyard. This venue doesn’t need a lot of decor to make it look good due to the character of the aged stone walls surrounding the courtyard. The green garland arch was all that was needed to make for a beautiful backdrop and add a nice pop of colour to the images.

Although summer is a popular time to get married for obvious reasons, I like shooting weddings at this time of year for the beautiful colours of autumn, not to mention a break from that summer heat! I love the way Jackie and Ryan incorporated the fall colours into the bridesmaids dresses and bouquets. Another advantage of fall weddings from a photography standpoint is that the chance of having direct sunlight is reduced so people don’t get sweaty and the soft lighting makes for more flattering photos.

All the details in the reception space matched the rustic theme of this wedding. I love the vibrant yellow and orange colours of the flowers and how Jackie and Ryan incorporated these into their cake design as well. This decor was all about warm tones with lots of candles and lanterns. The gold geometric candle holders and the geometric design of the menu cards were a nice touch to really tie everything together. I’m not sure about everyone else but I was especially thrilled about the s’mores bar!

Filling up the space with Jackie and Ryan’s closest family and friends created a warm and inviting environment. There was lots of laughter and happy tears from all the speeches. Also FYI if anyone tells you the Scottish don’t know how to party just know that is a load of rubbish. These guys tore up the dance floor as if they had unlimited energy. Must have been the whisky!
